In a “fluff” piece by the Huffington Post, we get the sense that the coverage should actually be called, “Why are egg donation agencies not regulated?“
After reviewing the piece and listening to the stories, it appears that the coverage should focus more on the physicians who are medically treating the egg donors and not the agencies. Who controls the cycle? Who monitors the egg donors regarding hyper-stimulation?
Egg donor agencies are doing exactly what they have always been doing – matching egg donors with parents and are covered by each state’s Business and Professions code. Should egg donor agencies do more? Absolutely! Should they be regulated? Absolutely not! What are your thoughts?
